The Raffles style named after Thomas Stanford Raffles, the founder of Singapore 1819. This style popularized during Raffles rule Java as governor 1811. This style has a basic profile that similar to Thomas Sheraton Parlour chair appeared on plate 33 of Sheraton’s Drawing Book of 1793. Thin arm arching down to vase shape and spiral reeded dowel. The front legs are turning and reeded tapered shape.

The Mission style grew out of England’s late 19th Century Arts & Crafts movement


The Mission emphasizing thin rectangular lines with flat square surfaces and edges along with plain hardware, utilitarian design along with the reduction of excessive decoration of the late Victorian. The Mission style grew out of England’s late 19th Century Arts & Crafts movement, most closely identified with philosopher/ designer William Morris, introduced to America in the early 20th century
